Apart from trauma, epistaxis or nose bleed can often be recurrent and occur spontaneously due to the delicate nature of blood vessels at the front of the nose called "Littus area". First aid should be undertaken to stem the blood loss, ie pinch the soft part of the nose between thumb and forefinger for 5 minutes and apply ice packs to the bridge of the nose. Occasionally blood loss can be from the back of the nose and be severe in which case medical attention should be sought.
